The rear SAM control unit is located on the right under the rear bench seat.
Task
Depending on the function sequence the rear SAM control unit supplies various systems and control units with voltage via limit switches. In addition the rear SAM control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Control of systems
- Actuation of components
- Switching of relays
Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:
- Interference suppression filter for radio antenna (A49/6)
- Rear door locking unit (A72)
- Fuel pump with fuel gauge sensor (M3/3)
- Right front door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/5s1)
- Left front door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/6s1)
- Left rear door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/8s1)
- Right rear door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/9s1)
- Rear-end door handle switch (S88/9)
- Access aid microswitch for 2nd seat row, right (S159/1) (with model 164.8 with code (845) Electric folding 3rd seat row)
- Redundant crash signal from restraint systems control unit (N2/7)
- For code (551) Antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]):

The input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.
