Video mode, general
The DVD drive in the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) supports playback of video DVDs. With code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer a DVD changer is integrated. With code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) a single DVD drive is installed.
When the "Video" menu is selected in the application bar and then the menu item "DVD Video" is selected in the function bar, the video image is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
Operating notes, general
The system can be operated using the:
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9): The COMAND controller unit receives the signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel over the telematics CAN, on model 204.0/2/3 with code (255) AMG Performance Media over the AMG Performance Media control unit (N125/3).
- COMAND controller unit operating panels: The signals are processed internally.
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111): The control signals are forwarded by the steering wheel electronics (N135) over the steering LIN (LIN E1), steering column tube module control unit (N80) and the chassis CAN (CAN E) to the instrument cluster (A1), and transmitted from there over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the COMAND controller unit.
- Remote control (A8/7) (model 204.9 with code (867) SPLITVIEW):
The COMAND controller unit reads in the signals of the remote control over the integrated infrared interface.
Function sequence for video mode
The COMAND controller unit sends the picture data over a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display, on model 204.0/2/3 with code (255) AMG Performance Media over the AMG Performance Media control unit.
On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are relayed directly to the speaker system by the COMAND controller unit. In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the COMAND controller unit sends the audio signals over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3). The sound system amplifier control unit processes the audio signals and relays them for output via direct lines to the following speakers.

When the video mode is activated using the remote control (model 204.9 with code (867) SPLITVIEW), the audio signals are forwarded by the COMAND controller unit over a direct line to the headphones electrical connector (cabled) (X39/6) or sent over the integrated radio interface to the radio frequency headphones (H8/3).
Except model 204.9 with code (867) SPLITVIEW, the DVD/CD-video function is only available when the vehicle is at a standstill. Only acoustic playback is active while driving, and for safety reasons a warning appears on the Audio/COMAND display.
