Location

The multifunction camera is located at the top center under a cover on the front window.

Task

The multifunction camera records pictures of the area in front of the vehicle. The pictures are processed in the multifunction camera's internal control unit and used for implementation of the camera-based driver assistance systems.

The multifunction camera has the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals

The input factors are read in over the chassis CAN (CAN E). The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Control of systems

The multifunction camera controls the following systems:

(with code (608) Adaptive Highbeam Assist)

Component actuation

The signals are transmitted by the multifunction camera over the chassis CAN. The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

IMPORTANT To avoid any fogging in the multifunction camera's field of view the front window is heated in this area by the auxiliary heater heating element (R50), which is actuated directly by the multifunction camera.

Design

The multifunction camera consists of the following main components integrated in a housing:

IMPORTANT The multifunction camera should be calibrated again after exchanging the multifunction camera or windshield.
