Remove/install upper control arm - AR33.20-P-0500TX

MODIFICATION NOTES

18.10.05 Follower joints on the upper transverse control arm can be individually replaced Steps 9, 15  
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on AIRmatic   AH32.22-P-1000-02T
NOTES When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.    
1 Discharge front air suspension strut using STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with AIRmatic (semi-active air suspension), code 489  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
2 Raise vehicle with vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-1000TX
3 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050TX
4 Press follower joint (8) out of steering knuckle (5) IMPORTANT Secure steering knuckle (5) to prevent it from swinging away. The brake hose and electrical feed cables must not be stretched. AR33.20-P-0500-01TX
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1008-01K

  Left upper transverse control arm     
5 Remove left front suspension strut. Vehicles with AIRmatic (semi-active air suspension), code 489

6 Remove left front fuse box and relay box in engine compartment    
7 Undo expansion reservoir for coolant and place to one side    
8 Detach upper wishbone (6) from front end TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1002-01K 
9 Inspect follower joint (8). IMPORTANT If necessary, replace follower joint (8). AR33.20-P-0425TX 
  Right upper transverse control arm     
10 Remove right front suspension strut Vehicles with AIRmatic (semi-active air suspension), code 489

Vehicles without AIRmatic

11 Remove combination filter housing (9a) IMPORTANT Model 219.322/354/356 without automatic air conditioning and model 219.375/376 with code (581) Automatic air conditioning: ↓  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Replace combination filter. AP83.00-P-8384TX
12 Remove the auxiliary battery.   AR54.10-P-0007TX
13 Dismantle level control of xenon headlamp from transverse control arm Vehicles with code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination  
14 Detach upper wishbone (6) from front end TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1002-01K

15 Inspect follower joint (8). IMPORTANT If necessary, replace follower joint (8). AR33.20-P-0425TX 
16 Install in the reverse order    
17 Perform a wheel alignment check   AR40.20-P-0200TX
