IMPORTANT The fiber optic cable connector (MOST) (X39/50) is located in the rear cable duct, left of to the rear bench seat. It always has to be checked, whether is exists, since there are also vehicles with several or no fiber optic cable connectors (MOST).

REMOVING Remove     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries  caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.
Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.
Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

1 Disconnect battery ground line

2 Remove side paneling in left side of luggage compartment

3 Remove SAM control unit with fuse and relay box in luggage compartment IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connectors.  
4 Remove side upholstery of left rear seat backrest    
5 Remove paneling on left B-pillar IMPORTANT Only loosen in the lower area until the cable duct is accessible.

6 Remove front floor covering (left)    
7 Open left wiring ducts    
8 Remove radio IMPORTANT Audio 20 CD radio can be dispensed with and is replaced with the Audio 50 APS radio with navigation unit.  
9.1 Remove instrument cluster IMPORTANT Vehicles without  code (596) Heat- insulating glass.  
INSTALLING Install     
10.1 Retrofit antenna for global positioning system (GPS) IMPORTANT Vehicles without  code (596) Heat- insulating glass. AN82.61-P-7474-04TXA
11 Retrofit wiring harness.   AN82.61-P-0001-01TX
12 Retrofitting AM/FM antenna line   AN82.62-P-0001-04TX
13 Retrofit MOST fiber optic cable wiring harness NOTESRisk of breakage!  Do not kink fiber optic cable and do not route over sharp edges or bend in radii smaller than 25 mm. Tensile forces on inserts must not exceed 65 N. Do not squeeze fiber optic cable and do not compress with clamps or cable ties.  
IMPORTANT Vehicles without  one of the following codes:
Code (386) Preinstallation for telephone "Handy", UPCI system,
Code (388) Telephone "Handy", UPCI system.
Code (819) CD changer.

14.1 Retrofit antenna for global positioning system (GPS) IMPORTANT Vehicles with  code (596) Heat-insulating glass.

REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Remove/install antenna

15 Retrofit audio gateway control unit   AN82.61-P-0001-07TX
16 Perform retrofit variant coding IMPORTANT Enter navigation parameters and reconfigure MOST ring.  
17 Install in the reverse sequence IMPORTANT Steps 9.1 to 1.  
18 Enter special equipment in the vehicle data card and in the vehicle's online data card IMPORTANT Code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio.
