Check engine hood lock and safety hook - AP88.40-P-8851T

INSPECT Check     
IMPORTANT Do not oil or grease the closing system. IMPORTANT Replace system if hard to move or defective, do not attempt to free up or repair.  
1 Open engine hood    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Open/move to upright position/close engine hood AR88.40-P-1000T 
2 Check all locking elements for wear, cracks, deformation and damage    
3 Allow engine hood to fall freely into engine hood locks from a height of approx. 150 mm NOTES Engine hood should arrest securely in both locks to ensure proper locking  
4 Check engine hood lock IMPORTANT Grasp the engine hood with your hand from the front and pull with a firm jerk Grasp the engine hood with your hand from the front and pull with a firm jerk to check the engine hood is locked properly.
IMPORTANT In the event of malfunction or if rotary tumblers (1) are hard to move, install new engine hood locks
 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install hood lock AR88.40-P-3200T 
5 Unlock engine hood    
6 Check release lever (2) and safety hook (3) as well as their moving elements for easy motion and function IMPORTANT Grasp engine hood from the front and check proper function of safety hook (3) by pulling vigorously, jerkily.
While doing this, do not operate release lever (2) of safety hook and do not change its location.
IMPORTANT When gently closing the engine hood, the safety hook (3) must latch automatically into the lock pawl (4).
IMPORTANT In event of malfunction of safety hook, install new engine hood lock: ↓
 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Remove/install hood lock AR88.40-P-3200T 
7 Close engine hood    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR Open/move to upright position/close engine hood AR88.40-P-1000T
