Function requirements
- Status "circuit 30 ON" or "circuit 15R ON"
- Mobile phone system operating error-free
- One mobile telephone network must be available in sufficient strength and quality
- Compatible mobile phone inserted into the mobile phone cradle (comfort telephony) or Bluetooth mobile phone in the vehicle and registered with the "master control unit" (basic telephony)
- Enabled Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card inserted in mobile phone
The term "master control unit" is used below for the particular component installed of those listed below:
- Radio with auto pilot system (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- Radio with auto pilot system, with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
General
A distinction is made between the following 2 versions for the mobile phone system:
- Basic telephony
- Comfort telephony, with code (386) Mobile phone
Both systems use Bluetooth technology for data transfer. The mobile phone system comprises the following subfunctions:
- Telephone switch-on/switch-off characteristics, function
- Establishing/ending a phone call, function
- Phone call acceptance, function
- Voice control function with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
- Short Message Service (SMS), function

Operating instructions
The mobile phone system can be operated via:
- Buttons on the mobile phone
- Telephone buttons on the "master control unit"
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9)
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups (MFL)
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]), with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer
Supplemental information on address book
The user can manage his contact data in the address book function (view, edit, complete, delete and add new). The address book contains the address entries stored in the "master control unit" and the data loaded from the mobile phone's phone book for comfort telephony. The data from the mobile phone are then permanently available, even if the mobile phone is no longer inserted in the cradle.
Address entries can only be removed by deleting individual entries or by deleting the entire address book. The Bluetooth interface of the mobile phone and the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) can be used to transmit data from other external devices (e.g. PDA, laptop, etc.) into the address book. These data are then permanently available as address entries. The address-relevant applications for telephony can be started directly via the address book entries and provided with the data stored.
In vehicles with basic telephony, individual or several entries (e.g. vCards) from the phone book can be transferred from the mobile phone to the address book.
Address entries can contain the following:
- Names (surname and first name)
- Postal addresses (private or business)
- Telephone numbers (private, business, fixed-line network, mobile or car)
- Geo position (private or business)
- Company name
50 entries can be provided with voice commands for VCS [SBS], with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer. The address entries stored in the "master control unit" and the data loaded from the mobile phone's phone book are displayed in the address book.
The mobile phone is taken out of operation by pressing the On/ Off button on the mobile phone and subsequently removing the SIM card.
The SIM card may only be removed after the mobile phone has been deactivated in order to prevent permanent damage to the memory chip installed on the SIM card. When the mobile phone is reactivated, it is necessary to reenter the Personal Identification Number (PIN).
Private mode (comfort telephony only)
In "private mode" with comfort telephony the user makes a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to participate in the telephone conversation. This is achieved by removing the mobile phone from the mobile phone cradle (A34/15) during the phone call. The phone call is retained on the mobile phone and can be continued on this. It is also possible to continue an existing phone call via hands-free mode by inserting the mobile phone back into the cradle.
In vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the voice output takes place in hands-free mode (except "private mode") from the "master control unit" via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) and from there directly via discrete lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker (H4/4)
- Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
- Bass speaker (H4/29)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
In vehicles except code (810) Sound system, with basic telephony and comfort telephony the voice output in hands-free mode takes place from the "master control unit" directly via discrete lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Center instrument panel speaker
