Satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR) function - GF82.60-P-3021CW

MODEL 204.0 with CODE (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer with CODE (536) SIRIUS satellite radio up to Model Year 8

Function requirements

General

The satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit (N87/5) enables stations to be received from the "Sirius Satellite Radio" provider. The satellite digital audio radio system (satellite radio) (SDAR) is controlled using the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). The data or displays required for control purposes are issued over the audio/COMAND display (A40/8) and in the instrument cluster (A1).

Operating instructions

The system can be operated over the following components:

Function sequence for satellite digital audio (SDAR) radio

The Sirius satellite radio signal is transmitted 3 times in order to achieve a reception diversity (by 2 satellites and one terrestrial station). The multifunction antenna receives all 3 channels (Sat 1, Sat 2, terrestrial station).

The multifunction antenna routes the signals over a coaxial cable to the satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit. The satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit receives and decodes the signals. Finally the satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit transmits the decoded, digital radio signals over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit and for vehicles with code (810) Sound system to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3). Audio output is emitted at the following speakers:

For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, data are exchanged over MOST between the satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) control unit and the COMAND controller unit. The audio output is forwarded directly over discrete lines by the COMAND controller unit via the following speakers:

Diagnosis

The COMAND controller unit is the diagnosis gateway for all MOST subscribers. Diagnosis is performed via the diagnostic CAN and the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via the interior CAN to the COMAND controller unit using a KW-2000 event log.
