Remove/install spring control arm, replace rubber bushing - AR35.20-P-0114T

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
    NOTES While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surfaces of aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected  
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  Only tighten bolts and nuts of the chassis components when in ready-to-drive condition.  
1 Completely discharge all air from air spring with STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with AIRMATIC (semi-active air suspension), code 489 AR32.22-P-1500-04T
NOTES Notes on AIRmatic   AH32.22-P-1000-02T
    NOTESInstallation:  The filling procedure for the air springs must be observed, otherwise the air springs will be irreparably damaged. AR32.22-P-1500-03T
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1008-04B

3 Remove rear wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary   AP40.10-P-4050Z
4 Remove cover (6f)    
5.1 Detach air spring from spring control arm (6) Vehicles with AIRMATIC (semi-active air suspension), code 489
NOTES Do not twist the air spring nor move it into the stretched position as this leads to creases forming in the air spring bellows and consequently to irreparable damage to the air spring. Secure the air spring to prevent it from falling down.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Do not tighten threaded connection.
 
5.2 Remove rear spring (6i). Vehicles without AIRmatic

6 Detach shock absorber (6j) from spring control arm (6). Vehicles with AIRMATIC (semi-active air suspension), code 489  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1002-03G 
7 Remove shock absorber (6j) from spring control arm (6) Vehicles with AIRMATIC (semi-active air suspension), code 489
IMPORTANT Push together shock absorber and position at side of spring control arm.
 
8 Raise wheel carrier (7) with transmission jack and transmission platform until the rear axle shaft (37) is approximately horizontal IMPORTANTInstallation:  Tighten all bolted connections which are screwed together loosely

9 Detach tie rod (4) from wheel carrier (7) and swing upwards. IMPORTANTInstallation:  Mount bolted connection loosely.  
10 Pull off protective cap (31k) and unscrew lower guide bolt (31c) for brake caliper Except 211.076 /077 /276 /277  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA42.10-P-1003-12H 
11 Detach spring control arm (6) from rear axle carrier (1). IMPORTANTInstallation:  Mount bolted connection loosely.  
12 Detach spring control arm (6) from wheel carrier (7) and lever out spring control arm (6). IMPORTANTInstallation:  Drive the fitted bush (7b) flush into the wheel carrier using a suitable tool.

INSPECT Checking     
13 Check spring control arms (6) for signs of damage Vehicles without AIRmatic
IMPORTANT On vehicles with steel suspension bars are located on the spring control arm (arrow), which shear off at side impacts and thus protect the rear axle carrier (1). If these webs have been sheared off, the spring control arm must be replaced.
 
14 Check supporting joint (6a) in spring control arm (6) for signs of damage Vehicles without AIRmatic: Replace supporting ball joint (6a) if necessary: ↓  
Remove/install supporting joint on spring control arm
Vehicles with AIRmatic: Replace spring control arm (6) if necessary.
In the case of aluminum spring control arm for air suspension the supporting ball joint must not be replaced. The spring control arm is damaged by the supporting ball joint being pulled out and in. An exact alignment of the spring link halves is not subsequently possible.

15 Check rubber mount (6b) for spring control arm (6) in rear axle carrier (1) for signs of damage Replace rubber mount if necessary.  
  Replacing rubber mount:     
16 Detach tie rod (4) from rear axle carrier (1)   AR35.20-P-0109R
