Audio 20 function - GF82.60-P-0005TM

The radio (A2) is the main operating and display unit for the entertainment and communications systems integrated in the vehicle. The audio system consists of the following subfunctions:
- Volume and tone settings
- Telephony
- Radio (ultra-short wave (FM), medium wave (MW), long wave (LW), short wave (SW))
- Compact Disk (CD) audio
The radio, with code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer, also communicates with the following control units via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST):
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) with code 518 Media interface
- Sound system amplifier (N40/3) with code 810 Sound system
- Digital Audio Broadcasting control unit (N87/3), with code 537 Digital radio
The radio, with code 510 Audio 20 with CD changer, operates as a diagnosis gateway for all MOST subscribers to the class B Controller Area Network Bus (interior) (CAN-B) and forms the communications interface (master control unit).
For vehicles with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio a MOST is not used.
Function requirements:
- Power supply (on-board electrical system voltage 12 V) applied.
- Circuit 30 ON or circuit 15R ON.
- Radio authorized and no fault present.
If circuit 15R is not active, the MOST subscribers are activated by switching on the radio with code 510 Audio 20 with CD changer.
System activation:
Pressing the rotary switch switches on the operating unit of the radio. The volume for the selected audio source is regulated at the rotary controller. You can switch between the various audio sources by pressing the relevant buttons on the left button group at the radio.
The other radio functions are operated using the:
- buttons on the radio or
- the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
The control signals from the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) run via the local interconnect network (LIN) bus to the steering column tube module control unit (N80). From there the signals are relayed via CAN-B to the instrument cluster (A1) and then to the radio. Displays that are relevant to the operator appear in the radio display.
The information that is displayed during radio and telephone operation appears in both the radio display and the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster. The control and data signals for the multifunction display are transmitted to the instrument cluster by the radio via CAN-B.
