Voice connection to vehicle, function - GF82.95-P-2006TMB
MODEL 211 with CODE (359) TELE AID emergency call system with CODE (494) USA version as of Model Year 09/AEJ 08
Regardless of the type of emergency call, as well as transmitting a Short Message Service (SMS) message, a voice connection is immediately established to the service center, and the user can speak with a customer service representative. If the service center is unable to establish a connection to the vehicle, the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) then attempts to establish a connection from the vehicle to the service center. Both, the emergency call and the information service are free services provided by Mercedes-Benz customer support.
The VCS [SBS] microphone (B25/7) is used for voice input. The voice output occurs exclusively via the left front speaker (H4/9) and the right front speaker (H4/10). Both speakers are actuated discretely by the emergency call system control unit. Normally, the telephone connection is established through the telephone antenna (A2/49a1), which is on the roof of the vehicle. If this antenna is defective, e.g. because of a rollover, spare antennas are installed in the left and right ventilation flap grilles in the trunk. The emergency call system control unit detects an antenna failure and automatically actuates the left emergency call system backup antenna (A2/54) and the right emergency call system backup antenna (A2/55) via the emergency call system antenna splitter (A2/25).
