Remove/install upper tank cover - AR64.20-P-1080V: Notes

MODIFICATION NOTES

13.6.06 Bolt, tank cover to floor cross member Model 171 *BA47.10-P-1010-01B 
REMOVING Removing    
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.
 
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, tailgates or sliding roof. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts.  
DANGER Risk of fire and explosion caused by machining/treating magnesium components  Keep away from ignition sources and open flames.  
1 Close Vario roof IMPORTANT The tank cover can only be removed when the Vario roof is closed.
In event of malfunction close Vario roof mechanically, see: ↓
 
    Close Vario roof manually AR77.30-P-6235V
2 Positioning trunk lid to assembly position   AR88.50-P-5000-01V
3 Open retractable trunk partition IMPORTANT See Operator's Manual  
4 Remove retractable trunk partition   AR68.50-P-3000V
5 Remove spare tire paneling    
6 Remove center trunk paneling Bottom center trunk paneling AR68.30-P-4810V
    Upper center trunk paneling AR68.30-P-4810VA
7 Detach equipment bridges and move toward rear    
8 Loosen bolts (1) on tank cover and unscrew    
9 Loosen nuts (2) on tank cover and unscrew    
10 Remove tank cover    
INSTALLING Install     
11 Install tank cover IMPORTANT When installing tank cover the vehicle should be positioned on its wheels  
12 Position bolts (1) and nuts (2) on tank cover    
13 Move bottom tank cover to position NOTES If the tank cover is installed improperly (at an angle), malfunction can occur: The divider comes out of the catch and no longer actuates the trunk partition "closed" limit switch (S69/10), so that the Vario roof can no longer be closed when stored.
IMPORTANT Press button tank cover forward against stop, if necessary use rubber hammer as aid. Hold in position and tighten bolts (arrows).
 
14 Tighten bolts (1) on tank cover IMPORTANT Observe bolt pattern, see: ↓  
    Tank cover bolt diagram AR64.20-P-1080-01V 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt of upper tank cover to Vario roof crossmember *BA47.10-P-1009-01B 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt of tank cover to floor crossmember *BA47.10-P-1010-01B 
15 Tighten nuts (2) on tank cover IMPORTANT Observe bolt pattern, see: ↓

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut of tank cover to side longitudinal member at the top *BA47.10-P-1011-01B 
16 Position and fasten equipment bridges    
17 Install cover in middle of trunk Bottom center trunk paneling AR68.30-P-4810V
    Upper center trunk paneling AR68.30-P-4810VA
18 Install cover on spare tire    
19 Install trunk lid partition   AR68.50-P-3000V
20 Close trunk divider IMPORTANT See Operator's Manual  
21 Check Vario roof for proper function
