	Remove/install
	Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge		AH54.00-P-0001-01A
1	Buffer basic data of COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) in STAR DIAGNOSIS	When replacing the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Installation:  Transfer buffered basic data to new COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
	Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory		AD00.00-P-2000-04A
2	Switch off the ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS control unit	On vehicles with code (889) Keyless Go, press the Keyless Go start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off. Remove the Keyless Go transmitter card or transmitter key from the vehicle and store beyond the reach of the transmitter (min. 2 m).
3	Remove center air vent	On vehicles as of 29.1.08 or with code (809) Model year 2009	AR83.10-P-4503R
4	Remove cup holder		AR68.10-P-1600RA
5.1	Unclip COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) (arrows) and pull out of instrument panel (1) until electrical connectors on rear of COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) are accessible	On vehicles up to 28.1.08 without code (809) Model year 2009
5.2	Remove bolts (2) and pull COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) out of instrument panel (1) until electrical connectors on rear of COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) are accessible	On vehicles as of 29.1.08 or with code (809) Model year 2009
6	Disconnect connectors on rear of COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)	To avoid damaging them, do not kink fiber optic cables, route over sharp edges or bend in radii smaller than 25 mm.
	7	Cover fiber optic cable coupling and equipment connection on COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)	AR82.95-P-0005-01A
8	Install in the reverse order
