	Remove/install
	Risk of injury caused by fingers being pinched or crushed when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, tailgates or sliding roof.	Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts.	AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
1	Remove strut tower brace	Model 164.8 only Remove spring dome strut at spring dome mounts.	AR62.30-P-2500GY
2	Remove engine trim panel	Installation: Do not install engine cover until oil-tightness has been checked.
3	Remove cylinder head (1)		AR01.30-P-5800GZC
4	Mount cylinder head (1) onto assembly device (01)	Prior to initial startup of assembly device (01), make sure that counterholders (02) are fitted correctly to cylinder head (1), otherwise there is the risk that the cylinder head (1) will be pressed up and out of the assembly device (01) and the cylinder head (1) will be damaged with the valves (6) in the combustion chamber. Observe owner's manual of assembly device manufacturer (01).
4	Mount cylinder head (1) onto assembly device (01)	Assembly device	Fig 4
5	Mount assembly lever (03) with thrust piece (04) onto sliding piece (05)	Position thrust piece (04) vertically at upper valve spring retainer (2) and align to sliding piece (05).

6	Slide air bellows for assembly device (01) with the lever (06)	Ensure that air bellows on assembly device (01) always stand opposite a combustion chamber correctly and are pushed in the middle otherwise air bellows can be pushed from the side out of combustion chamber and this could damage the valve (6). Move air bellows for assembly device (01) with a lever (06) in such a way that they are matched to the combustion chamber of the respective valves (6). Observe owner's manual of assembly device manufacturer (01).
7	Connect compressed air to assembly device (01) and open compressed air valve	Press air bellows of assembly device (01) in the combustion chamber onto the valve disks. Observe owner's manual of assembly device manufacturer (01).
8	Remove upper valve spring retainer (2) and valve spring (3)	Press together valve spring (3). Remove valve keeper (4) with tweezers (07). Installation: Replace valve stem seals before mounting the upper valve spring retainers (2) and valve springs (3): ↓

9	Take out lower valve spring retainer (5)
10	Close compressed air valve of assembly device (01)	Then seal off compressed air to the assembly device (01).
11	Remove valves (6)	For this purpose, dismount the cylinder head (1) from the assembly device (01).
	Check
12	Check upper valve spring retainer (2) and lower valve spring retainer (5)	Installation: Check top and lower valve spring retainers (2, 5) for score marks, cracks and pitting and replace if necessary.
13	Check valve stems	Check surface of valve stems for roughness and burrs (visual inspection or with nail). Installation: Replace valves (6) with a rough stem surface or formation of burrs.
14	Install in the reverse order
