The emission control system is divided into the following subsystems which are controlled and coordinated by the ME control unit:
- Closed-loop mixture control
- Two-sensor control
- O2 sensor heater
- Exhaust gas recirculation
- TWC heating.
The task of the emission control system is to reduce the exhaust emissions of:
- nitrogen oxides (NOX )
- hydrocarbon (HC)
- carbon monoxide (CO).
