- Measure the side clearance of the compression rings between the compression ring and the mounting groove in the piston with a
feeler gauge.
If the side clearance is beyond the permissible tolerance, replace compression rings or piston.
The end clearance of oil scraper ring cannot be checked because of its three-part design. The oil scraper ring must also be replaced when compression rings are replaced.
