- Measure vertical clearance between compression ring and mounting groove in piston with a
feeler gauge for the compression ring concerned; replace compression ring or piston if necessary.
The end clearance of the oil scraper ring cannot be measured because of its three-part design. The oil scraper ring must also be replaced when the compression rings are replaced.
