- For the compression ring concerned, measure the vertical clearance between the compression ring and the mounting groove in the piston with a feeler gauge; if necessary, replace the compression ring or piston.
The vertical clearance of the oil scraper ring cannot be measured because of its three-part design. The oil scraper ring must also be replaced when the compression rings are replaced.
