  2. Insert the left measuring device ring (052e) 140 589 41 63 00 part 01 from the outside inwards exactly up to the stop in the rear axle housing.
  3. Insert the right measuring device ring (052d) 140 589 41 63 00 part 02 from the inside outwards exactly up to the stop in the rear axle housing.

  4. SPECIAL TOOL Insert dial gauge (052a) with measuring pin in the SPECIAL TOOL measuring device (052).
  5. Press the adjusting piece (052b) 126 589 00 21 00 part 10 against the SPECIAL TOOL measuring device (052) and adjust the SPECIAL TOOL dial gauge (052a) to "0" under 2 mm preload. Tighten the clamp screw and when doing so check the "0" position of the SPECIAL TOOL dial gauge (052a), adjust if necessary.

IMPORTANT The measuring pin for the SPECIAL TOOL dial gauge (052a) is screwed into the adjusting piece (052b).

  6. SPECIAL TOOL Insert the measuring device (052) through the left bore in the rear axle housing.

NOTES When inserting SPECIAL TOOL measuring device (052) into rear axle housing, ensure that measuring pin of SPECIAL TOOL dial indicator is not damaged in bore.

IMPORTANT The adjustment dimension "A" is the design basic adjustment of the drive pinion, whereby the basic deviation "a" must be within the permissible tolerance in the positive (+) or negative (-) direction. The basic deviation "a" is the dimension which is indicated on the end face of the drive pinion.

NOTES If the adjustment dimension is outside the tolerance, the shim installed should be reground or a new shim of appropriate thickness should be installed. However, it is absolutely essential to use a new spacer sleeve for the tapered roller bearings.
