Remove/install the suspension strut - AR32.25-P-1017TY

MODEL 219.3 with CODE (489) AIRmatic (semi-active air suspension)

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush  or, in extreme cases, even sever  extremities No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating range of the mechanism when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition    
1 Place front wheels in straight-ahead position    
2 Relieve the pressure from the air suspension strut (40) using STAR DIAGNOSIS until the residual pressure is reached IMPORTANT Residual pressure in air suspension strut (40) up to 3.5 bar.

3 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050TX
4 Remove fender liner front section in front fender   AR88.10-P-1310TX
5 Disconnect electrical connector for damping valve unit   AR32.22-P-1500-01TY
6 Unscrew nut (3) from follower joint for upper transverse control arm (4) at steering knuckle (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1008-01K 
7 Press follower joint out of steering knuckle (5) IMPORTANT To prevent the steering knuckle (5) from folding down too low, attach a support strap between the upper control arm (4) and wheel carrier. AR33.20-P-0500-01TX

8 Disconnect electrical connector (1) at the top of the shift valve    
9 Detach pressure line connection (40a) IMPORTANT Plug the pressure line for the duration of the repair operations. Damaged compressed- air lines (40a) or damaged pressure lines must be repaired: ↓  
Repair compressed-air line (40a). AR32.22-P-2001-02TX

10 Unscrew nuts (2) of air suspension strut (40) to front end TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1001-04K 
11 Detach air suspension strut (40) from spring control arm (6) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Tighten the threaded connection in the curb condition at normal vehicle level.  
12 Press down spring control arm (6), detach air suspension strut (40) from spring control arm (6) and remove sideways and downwards IMPORTANT When replacing or reinstalling the air suspension strut (40), the air suspension strut (40) must be checked: ↓  
Check air suspension strut (40). AR32.25-P-1017-02TX
13 Install in the reverse order    
14 Charge affected air suspension strut (40) with STAR DIAGNOSIS NOTES The wheels must not touch the ground while being filled because the air bellows in the air suspension strut (40) will be destroyed if filled with the suspension compressed.  
15 Tighten threaded connection of air suspension struts (40) on spring control arm (6) in ready-to-drive condition IMPORTANT Select normal vehicle level with STAR- DIAGNOSIS.

16 Check AIRmatic for leaks   AR32.22-P-8100TX
