Balancing wheels - AR40.10-P-1040CW

  Balancing     
1 Remove wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050CW 
2.1 Remove jammed wheel balance weight (43a) using assembly tool SPECIAL TOOL Fig 3
2.2 Remove adhesive weights (43b, 43c) using removal tool NOTES Do not use a hard, pointed or sharp-edged tool, in order to avoid damaging the surface of the disk wheels.

CLEAN Clean     
3 Clean wheels if necessary. NOTES Dirt on the tire or disk wheel cause incorrect measurement results when balancing and it is therefore essential that dirt be removed before  balancing  
  Balance wheels while stationary     
4 Mounting centering sleeve   AR40.10-P-1040-01A 
5 Fasten wheels to stationary balancing machine and balance them IMPORTANT Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions.
IMPORTANT Use adhesive weights (43b, 43c) when installation conditions are cramped. The residual imbalance may be a maximum of 10 g for each side of the wheel.
 
6 Mount wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050CW 
  Balance wheels dynamically     
7 Switch off Electronic Stability Program (ESP) IMPORTANT Press the ESP button (S6/1s5) in the instrument panel switch group (S6/1). The Electronic Stability Program warning lamp (A1e41) in the instrument cluster (A1) must light up.  
8 Close vehicle doors, hood and trunk lid    
DANGER Risk of death  caused by being drawn into rotating vehicle parts Do not insert your hand into rotating parts. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Secure area of rotating vehicle components against unauthorized access. AS00.00-Z-0004-01A
9 Balance wheels with dynamic balancing machine on vehicle NOTES Drive rear wheels using vehicle engine only, as otherwise the rear axle center assembly will be damaged.
IMPORTANT Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions.
Only wheels which have been balanced statically beforehand may be dynamically balanced.
 
10 Switch on Electronic Stability Program ESP IMPORTANT Press the ESP button (S6/1s5) in the instrument panel switch group (S6/1). The Electronic Stability Program warning lamp (A1e41) in the instrument cluster (A1) must go out.
