Standing/parking lights actuation, function - GF82.10-P-3060CE

MODEL 204.0 /2 as of model year 2009 /YoM 08

MODEL 204.3

MODEL 204.9

Function requirements, general

Standing/parking lights, general

The standing/parking lights actuation serves to mark the parked vehicle in darkness.

IMPORTANT With model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.11 and model 204.3 with code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination or code (616) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated asymmetric curve illumination or code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic), light-emitting diodes are used for the parking, standing and turn signal light functions.

To output the left parking, standing and turn signal light functions, the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) actuates the left front standing light and parking light (E1e3) and the left front turn signal light (E1e5) over the left LED; signaling lights actuation module (E1n7).

To output the right parking, standing and turn signal light functions, the front SAM control unit actuates the right front standing light and parking light (E2e3) and the right front turn signal light (E2e5) over the right LED; signaling lights actuation module (E2n7). The LED, signaling lights actuation modules actuate the supply voltages for the LEDs.

The standing/parking lights actuation is comprised of the following subfunctions:

Standing lights actuation function sequence

Turning the exterior lights switch (S1) to the standing lights position requests actuation of the standing lights.

The front SAM control unit reads in directly (voltage-coded) the status of the exterior lights switch for vehicles up to 31.5.10 over the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1) and for vehicles as of 1.6.10, and sends the request over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and for vehicles with code (550) Trailer hitch to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).

The front SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:

The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the following components via the trailer socket (X58):

On vehicles up to 31.5.09, actuation of the standing lights indicator lamp (S1e3) in the exterior lights switch by the front SAM control unit via the instrument panel LIN signals active standing lights actuation. On vehicles as of 1.6.09, the front SAM control unit sends the status "Standing light actuation active" to the instrument cluster (A1) via the interior CAN, which then switches on the instrument scale illumination.

Additional function requirements for lights on reminder

Lights on reminder function sequence

The logic for requesting the lights on reminder function is stored in the front SAM control unit.

The left front door control unit (N69/1) sends the status of the driver door and the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit receives this information and from it generates the request for output of the lights on reminder function and transmits this to the instrument cluster via the interior CAN. The instrument cluster receives the request and activates the warning buzzer (A1h1). The "Switch off lights!" message appears in the instrument cluster's travel distance display (A1p7) (model 204.0/2/3/9/ (except 204.077/277/375) without code (442) Comfort multifunction steering wheel) or in the multifunction display (A1p13) (with code (442) Comfort multifunction steering wheel, model 204.077/277/375).

The standing lights may be switched on because the low beams have been manually switched on, because of the auto on/off headlamps, the daytime running lights or manually via the exterior lights switch. If the standing lights have been activated by manually switching on the low beams, the auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights and the driver door is then opened with a transmitter key in the electronic ignition lock control unit, the standing lights are switched off.

If, with an active rear fog lamp actuation, the transmitter key is removed from the electronic ignition lock control unit, and the driver door is opened, the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer and shows a corresponding message on the travel distance display or the multifunction display.

Parking lights actuation function sequence

By turning the exterior lights switch to the left parking lights position or the right parking lights position, the parking lights actuation is requested for the corresponding side of vehicle. The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch and transmits the request via the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit and to the trailer recognition control unit.

Left parking light:

The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:

The rear SAM control unit actuates the left brake light, taillight and parking light.

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the left taillight on the trailer.

Right parking light:

The front SAM control unit actuates the following components:

The rear SAM control unit actuates the right brake light, taillight and parking light.

The trailer recognition control unit actuates the right taillight on the trailer.

IMPORTANT If, with model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.11, model 204.9 the interior CAN is in "bus idle", the parking lights actuation is stored in the rear SAM control unit and the trailer recognition control unit until a deactivation is requested by the front SAM control unit, even when the on-board electrical system voltage then collapses as a consequence and the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is completely discharged.

With model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.11, model 204.3 the standing, parking light is switched off, when the on-board electrical system management determines that the engine's starting capability is impaired through the discharged on-board electrical system battery.
