Function requirements, general 

Display compass function, general 

The driver uses the Display compass function for orientation purposes, e.g. off-road. The driver is shown the following information on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit:

For the Display compass function, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit requires the following signals:

IMPORTANT Display of the current direction of travel on the compass with cardinal points is also possible without GPS signals being received, since a gyro sensor which allows the cardinal compass points to be displayed without GPS reception is integrated in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

The Display compass function comprises the following subfunctions:

Operating instructions 

The Display compass function can only be selected on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit by selecting the following menus in the specified sequence using the buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit:

  1. Menu "Navigation"
  2. Menu item "Position" in function bar
  3. Submenu item "Compass"

Function sequence for reception of GPS signals 

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit receives the GPS signals from the GPS satellites via the following path:

Using the received GPS signals and the signals received from the gyro sensor integrated into the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit generates the visual information to be shown on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Function sequence for steering angle signal reception 

The COMAND operating, display and controller unit receives the steering angle signals from the steering angle sensor via the following path:

Using the received steering angle signals, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit generates the visual information shown on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller.

Function sequence for compass display 

The Display compass function can only be selected on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit by selecting the following menus using the buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit:

  1. Menu "Navigation"
  2. Menu item "Position" in function bar
  3. Submenu item "Compass"

The control signals from the buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally. The visual information shown on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is also generated internally.
