Remove/install the suspension strut - AR32.25-P-1017TA: Notes

MODEL 211.0 /2 (except 211.08 /09 /28 /29) with CODE (489) Airmatic (semi-active air suspension)

MODIFICATION NOTES

11.12.06 Self-locking nut, upper wishbone follower joint to steering knuckle Model 211 *BA33.20-P-1018-01A 
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush or  , in extreme cases, even sever  extremities. Keep all body parts and limbs away from moving mechanical components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
IMPORTANTInstallation  Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready to drive condition.    
1 Position wheels straight ahead.    
2 Remove front wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   AP40.10-P-4050Z
3 Relieve the pressure from the air suspension strut (40) using STAR DIAGNOSIS until the residual pressure is reached IMPORTANT Residual pressure in air suspension strut up to 3.5 bar  
NOTES Notes on AIRmatic   AH32.22-P-1000-02T 
4 Disconnect electrical connector (1) at the top of the shift valve    
5 Detach pressure line connection (40a) IMPORTANT Plug the pressure line for the duration of the repair operations.  
    IMPORTANTInstallation:  Before assembly, damaged pressure line connections or damaged pressure lines must be repaired. AR32.22-P-2001-02I 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1003-04B

6 Unscrew nuts (2) of air suspension strut (40) to front end TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1001-04B 
7 Remove fender liner front section in front fender   AR88.10-P-1310T
8 Disconnect electrical connector for damping valve unit   AR32.22-P-1500-01TV 
9 Unscrew nut (3) from follower joint for upper transverse control arm (4) at steering knuckle (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.20-P-1018-01A 
10 Press follower joint out of steering knuckle (5) IMPORTANT To prevent the steering knuckle from folding down too low, attach a support strap between the upper control arm (4) and wheel carrier. AR33.20-P-0500-01N
11 Detach air suspension strut (40) from spring control arm (6) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Tighten the threaded connection in the curb condition at normal vehicle level.  
12 Press down spring control arm (6), detach air suspension strut (40) from spring control arm (6) and remove sideways and downwards IMPORTANT When replacing or reinstalling the air suspension strut, check the condition of the air suspension strut. AR32.25-P-1017-02T 
13 Install in the reverse order    
14 Charge relevant air suspension strut (40) using STAR DIAGNOSIS to 5 bar NOTES The wheels must not make any contact with the ground when filling as when filling in the jounce condition the air spring bellows in the spring element will be destroyed.  
15 Tighten threaded connection of air suspension struts (40) on spring control arm (6) to curb condition IMPORTANT Select the normal vehicle level  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA32.25-P-1007-04B 
16 Check AIRmatic for leaks.   AR32.22-P-8100T
