REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   see AH00.00-N-0001-01A
NOTES While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected    
IMPORTANT Notes on AIRmatic   see AH32.22-P-1000-02SX
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.    
1 Depressurize suspension strut (6j) using STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with AIRmatic  
2 Secure vehicle on the lifting platform   see AR00.60-P-0100SX
3 Remove wheel.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Remove/install wheels   see AP40.10-P-4050SX
4 Detach level sensor linkage from spring control arm (6) Vehicles with code 487 Active Body Control (ABC)  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION see *BA82.10-P-1004-02E 
5 Detach expansion rivets (6e) and remove cover (6f)    
6 Clamping rear spring Vehicles with code Z07 Top protection AR32.20-P-0200-06MB

7 Detach exhaust rubber mount from flange connection and lower exhaust system at rear Engine 156, 272, 273, 275 see AR49.10-P-7100SX
Engines 642, 629 AR49.10-P-7100SXI
8 Detach suspension strut (6j) from spring control arm (6) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Raise wheel carrier (7) using transmission jack and transmission platform until the rear axle shaft (37) is roughly horizontal, then tighten all the bolted connections which have been screwed on loosely.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION see *BA32.25-P-1005-04L 
9 Detach spring control arm (6) from rear axle carrier (1) IMPORTANT Lower the exhaust system using the transmission jack and transmission platform until the bolt (6g) can be removed.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION see *BA35.20-P-1001-01A 
10 Detach spring control arm (6) from wheel carrier (7) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Mount bolted connection loosely.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION see *BA35.20-P-1002-01A 
11 Release tension on rear spring and remove from spring control arm (6) When replacing the spring control arm on vehicles with code Z07 Top protection  
INSPECT Checking     
12 Check rubber mount (6b) in rear axle carrier (1) If necessary: ↓
Remove/install spring control arm rubber mount:
 
Vehicles without top protection see AR35.20-P-0114-01SX

13 Install in the reverse order    
14 Carry out level calibration and plunger calibration using STAR DIAGNOSIS Vehicles with code 487 Active Body Control (ABC)  
15 Perform a wheel alignment check   see AR40.20-P-0200SX
