 Removal:
Remove intake manifold complete with intake connection, intake air pipes and fuel rail. |

Before installing the cylinder head covers, crank engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation and check the timing of the engine. See ↓ |

Position piston of cylinder 1 to 30° after ignition TDC |
Crank engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until 30° marking on belt pulley/vibration damper is aligned with marking on timing case cover. The marking (A) of the camshaft bearing cap (4) must be aligned with the marking (B) of the camshaft (8).
Engine must not be cranked backwards. |

Removal:
Mark camshaft adjuster and timing chain to each other with colored dots.
Installation:
Fit timing chain onto camshaft adjuster. Take off retaining clamp. |

Center cylinder shutoff valves on camshaft bearing caps so as to ensure a proper seal to the cylinder head cover. |

Installation:
The camshaft bearing bridge must not be disassembled. When carrying out repairs, the camshaft bearing bridge or rocker arm bearing bridge of the relevant clyinder head must be replaced complete.
If the camshaft or rocker arm bearing bridge of the left cylinder head is replaced, the camshaft must likewise be replaced.
Installation:
Position camshaft bearing bridge into dowel pins (10). |
