MODIFICATION NOTES

25.4.07 Check fluid level with service fill level indicator added Step 3.2
REMOVING Removing     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

1.1 Remove dust filter housing Vehicles without code P98 Black Series  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Replace dust filter for heating/air conditioning   AP83.00-P-8381P
1.2 Remove cover of battery Vehicles with code P98 Black Series  
See Detach battery ground line. AR54.10-P-0003Q 
  Check     
2 Visual inspection for external leaks IMPORTANT Replace battery in the event of leaks:
 
    Remove/install battery. AR54.10-P-0005P 
REFER TO FORMS   Dispose of battery OS54.10-P-0001-01Z 
3.1 Check fluid level in battery, replenish with distilled water if necessary Without  service fill level indicator, not on absorbent glass mat battery.  
3.2 Check fluid level of battery With  service fill level indicator, not on absorbent glass mat battery.
IMPORTANT Fluid level check via service fill level indicator, the acid level is too low if white discoloration is present: Replace battery: ↓
 
    Remove/install battery. AR54.10-P-0005P 
REFER TO FORMS   Dispose of battery OS54.10-P-0001-01Z 
4 Check battery   AR54.10-P-1129-01A 
Cold cranking amps as per EN
Midtronics battery tester with test clamps http://gotis.aftersales.mercedes-benz.com 
*BE54.10-P-1002-01A 
5 Reduce increased voltage after charging process On a battery that is disconnected from the on-board electrical system and with the message "Surface voltage" in the display of the Midtronics battery tester.

IMPORTANT After reducing increased voltage, test battery again.

6 Charge battery With the test code "Charge and check" on the Midtronics battery tester.
IMPORTANT After charging, test battery again.

INSTALLING Install     
7.1 Install dust filter housing Vehicles without code P98 Black Series  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Replace dust filter for heating/air conditioning   AP83.00-P-8381P
7.2 Remove cover of battery Vehicles with code P98 Black Series
