	Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes	Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.	AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

1	Remove the front wheels
	Remove/install wheels, rotate if necessary		AP40.10-P-4050Z
2	Detach left front brake pad contact sensor connector (S10/1x1)
3.1	Remove bolts (31c) and detach floating brake caliper (31a) upwards	Except model 203.087/092/287/292
		Tie floating brake caliper (31a) to body. Check dust boots (47) on floating brake caliper (31a) for damage. Installation:  Replace bolts (31c).

3.2	Drive out retaining pins using a punch and remove retaining plates (31d)	On model 203.087/092/287/292
4	Remove brake pads (31g)	Installation:  To ensure that the brake system functions correctly, only brake pads (31g) approved by Mercedes-Benz should be installed (the entire brake lining set must be changed). Installation:  Pay attention to installation position of inner brake pads (31g). The brake pad (31g) with printed-on arrow must be mounted on the side of the brake piston. The arrow must point in the direction of rotation of the wheel during forward travel. Brake pads (31g) must be disposed of as special waste. The local authorities can provide information regarding whether disposal is also permitted as industrial waste similar to domestic waste. Installation:  Fit retaining plates (31d) on to brake carrier correctly.
	Checking
5	Check brake lining thickness and brake disks	Replace brake pads (31g) and brake disks in complete sets if necessary.
	Inspect condition of brake disks	Model 203	AP42.10-P-4258BP
		Model 209	AP42.10-P-4258BQ
	Check brake lining thickness	If the brake pads (31g) have worn down to beyond the wear limit, the bar between the sealing groove and dust cap may be damaged; therefore: ↓	AP42.10-P-4253A
		Check brake system for leaks with pressure tester.	AR42.10-P-0015A
6	Pull left front brake pad contact sensor (S10/1) out of pad backing plate of brake pad (31g)	Check contact sensor (S10/1x1), replace if necessary.
7	Press back brake piston using pusher tool (031)	To prevent the brake fluid reservoir overflowing, suction off some brake fluid beforehand if necessary.

		If the brake piston is difficult to move: ↓
		Replace floating brake caliper (31a).	AR42.10-P-0070P
	Clean
8	Clean contact surfaces of brake pads (31g) in brake carrier and floating brake caliper (31a)	Do not damage dust boot (47) or boots of guide pins.

9	Install in the reverse order
	Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work.	Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.	AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
10	Operate the brake pedal several times until the brake pads (31g) make contact with the brake disks	A firm resistance must be noticeable at the brake pedal.
	Checking
11	Check brake fluid level, correct if necessary
