Remove/install cross member below instrument panel - AR68.10-P-1120QA

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
NOTES Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts All models AH00.00-N-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of injury in the form of trapping or crushing, or even severing of limbs, if caught in windshield wiper mechanism  Always remove ignition key when working on windshield wiper mechanism. AS82.30-Z-0001-01A
1 Detach wiper system and lay down to side   AR82.30-P-6400P
2 Unscrew screws (1)    
DANGER Risk of injury.  Injuries may result when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
3 Remove instrument panel   AR68.10-P-1000Q 
4 remove center console reinforcement with air ducts for rear compartment ventilation. IMPORTANT Tie lines running through center console reinforcement with cable strap.  
5 Remove jacket tube from cross member below instrument panel (2) and fold into footwell together with steering wheel. NOTES Avoid damage at steering wheel with suitable base.
IMPORTANT Do not remove bottom steering shaft from steering coupling.
 
    With mechanically adjustable jacket tube AR46.10-P-0400Q
    With electrically adjustable jacket tube AR46.10-P-0400QE
6 Unclip cable duct from cross member below instrument panel (2) IMPORTANT Unclip in area of jacket tube  
7.1 Unscrew bolt (3), unclip cable duct (4) and lay down to side With CD changer with 6 CD's, code 819  
8 Remove tunnel cross screws on cross member (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA68.10-P-1004-02A 
9 Remove tunnel cross screw left on main floor (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA68.10-P-1005-02A 
10 Unscrew right tunnel cross bolt from main floor (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA68.10-P-1006-02A 
11 Remove tunnel cross (8)    
12 Remove vapor barrier (9)    
13 Open all cable straps on cross member below instrument panel (2) and expose lines    
14 Unscrew bolts from cross member on A-pillar (10) on both sides TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA68.10-P-1002-02A 
15 Unscrew nuts (11)    
16 Unscrew bolts from cross member on cross member below windshield (12). TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA68.10-P-1001-02A 
17 Remove cross member below instrument panel (2) NOTESRemoval:  Carefully remove cross member below instrument panel (2).Support heater/AC housing to avoid damage
IMPORTANTInstallation:  First position all bolts, nuts and align cross member below instrument panel (2).
 
18 Install in the reverse order
