Overall description

The Parktronic system (PTS) is an electronic parking assist. For this process it assists the driver to estimate distances to objects in front of and behind the vehicle, particularly in blind areas.

The Parktronic system (PTS) only monitors the front area when driving forwards.

On vehicles with automatic transmission the Parktronic system (PTS) monitors the rear and front area when reversing and in transmission position neutral stage "N".

On vehicles with manual transmission the Parktronic system (PTS) monitors the rear and front area only when reverse gear is engaged (reversing).

Function conditions

Function

Detects the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle via the front bumper PTS sensor unit (A42) and rear bumper PTS sensor unit (A43) and passes it on to the Parktronic control module (N62). The Parktronic control module (N62) evaluates the sensor signal and either activates the PTS warning display, center of instrument panel 149 of 260 (A44/4) or the PTS warning display, rear (A44/3).

One part of the warning indicator is assigned to each side of the bumper. The PTS warning display, rear (A44/3) and PTS warning display, center of instrument panel (A44/4) signal to the driver audibly and visually obstacles which are in the monitoring range.

The Parktronic system (PTS) is activated by switching on the ignition, a system self-test is then carried out.
