Removal & Installation
- Deactivate SBC brake system. See DEACTIVATING & ACTIVATING SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL (SBC) SYSTEM (WITH STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) or DEACTIVATING & ACTIVATING SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL (SBC) SYSTEM (WITHOUT STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) under SERVICE PRECAUTIONS.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheels.
- Inspect brake discs for scores and cracks. It is not necessary to replace perforated or non-perforated brake discs if crack length is less than 25 mm. On perforated brake discs measure crack length including hole diameter. See Fig 1 . In case of cracks and scores which have split open and are deeper than 0.5 mm, replace brake disc
- Clean brake dust from perforations on brake discs (61), if necessary.
- Measure thickness of brake discs on front and rear axles with caliper gauge (035). See Fig 2 and DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS . Replace disc if it is close to recommended wear limit.
- Remove brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPER (FRONT) or BRAKE CALIPER (REAR) .
- Remove retaining bolt (63) and remove brake disc (61).
- Install in reverse order. If necessary, replace brake discs. Lubricate fitting seat of brake disc lightly with MB long-term grease. Install new retaining bolt. See Fig 3 . Torque nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate SBC brake system. See DEACTIVATING & ACTIVATING SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL (SBC) SYSTEM (WITH STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) or DEACTIVATING & ACTIVATING SENSOTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL (SBC) SYSTEM (WITHOUT STAR DIAGNOSIS COMPACT DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM) under SERVICE PRECAUTIONS. Inspect fluid level in expansion reservoir, correct level if necessary. If rear brake discs were removed, Check version of pedal assembly. See PEDAL ASSEMBLY VERSION . Adjust parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENTS .
NOTE:
DO NOT make perforations in brake disc larger.
NOTE:
DO NOT remove brake hose. The brake hose must not be subjected to tensile loads, fasten brake caliper to vehicle with a hook.
