INSPECT Checking
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1 Hoist vehicle with lifting platform until wheels are clear of ground   AR00.60-P-1000G
2 Check mileage and manufacture date of tires Model 461, 463 with code (979) Special protection version
IMPORTANT Replace the tires of the wheel-and-tire assemblies and spare wheel:
  • after max. 20, 000 km or
  • if the manufacture date is older than 3 years

NOTES Information on tires / rims   AH40.10-P-9411-01A
3 Check tires on all wheel-and-tire assemblies IMPORTANT Check tread as well as outer and inner sidewalls on all tires for signs of damage such as cuts, punctures, cracks, breakouts, separation and ingressed foreign matter. If damage is present ↓
Replace tire:

Model 461, 463 with code (979) Special protection version and Rodgard run flat system AR40.10-P-1030PM
4 Check tire wear pattern on all wheel-and-tire assemblies IMPORTANT If necessary, interchange the wheel-and-tire assemblies on the front and rear axle or:↓
Replace tire:

Model 461, 463 with code (979) Special protection version and Rodgard run flat system
IMPORTANT Greater wear at the shoulder (heel-and-toe wear) compared to the center of the tire is normal for the front wheel-and-tire assemblies. This wear pattern will be more pronounced if the vehicle has been driven for longer periods when the tire inflation pressure was too low and if the vehicle was driven frequently in city traffic or around tight corners.
IMPORTANT Vehicles with shift-on-the-fly four wheel drive:
At the tires on the rear wheel-and-tire assemblies, the tire usually wears evenly over the entire tire tread, whereby the wear at the center of the tire tread is usually slightly greater than in the shoulder areas.
IMPORTANT Vehicles with permanent all-wheel drive: Since the front wheel-and-tire assemblies also take on traction, the tread center wear on the tires of the rear wheel-and-tire assemblies is considerably less than with pure rear wheel drive. The wear is more evenly distributed over the entire tire tread.

MEASURING Measure
5 Measure depth of tread of all tires and note measured values on the maintenance sheet IMPORTANT The main tread along the entire circumference must have a tread depth of at least 1.6 mm. Measure depth of tread at point of greatest wear. Perform measurement at outside, inside and center of main tread.
IMPORTANT The wide tread grooves in the center area of the tread, which accounts for roughly 3/4 of the tread width is deemed to be the main tread.
IMPORTANT For safety reasons tires should be replaced before reaching the minimum tread depth:
  • On summer tires at approx. 2 to 3 mm tread depth,
  • Winter tires at approx. 4 mm tread depth.
