Remove/install rear-end door - AR72.20-P-1901A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Activate service mode in Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand (emergency call system) (TELE AID) IMPORTANT Only on model 463.243/244/245/250/309/322/323/332/333 with code (ET2) TELE AID car telephone emergency call system, 463.247/248/254/270 up to 1.4.07 with code (ET2) TELE AID car telephone emergency call system AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn  injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.
Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.
Only pour liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

2 Disconnect battery ground line Except model 463.236 with code (979) special protection version. AR54.10-P-0003G

3 Remove spare tire    
4 Remove luggage compartment cover (A) IMPORTANT Only with code (V53) Stowage box and luggage compartment cover and code (V57) Luggage compartment cover  
5 Remove side stowage box cover (B) IMPORTANT Only with code (V53) Stowage box and luggage compartment cover  
6 Loosen mount for stowage box (C) from rear pillar IMPORTANT For this purpose unscrew bolt (D).  
7 Remove left edge guard (4) from rear pillar    
8 Remove paneling from left rear pillar (E)    
9 Remove wiring harness bracket (1)    
10 Remove return spring mount (2)    
11 Remove wiring harness protective tube (5)    
12 Remove rear-end door lining Single-wing rear-end door with window AR72.20-P-6615G 
13 Disconnect electrical connectors from windshield wiper motor IMPORTANT Mark electrical lines before removal.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that electrical lines are routed properly.
 
14 Disconnect electrical connectors from heated rear window IMPORTANT Mark electrical lines before removal.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that electrical lines are routed properly.
 
15 Disconnect electrical connector from rear door CL motor (M14/7) IMPORTANT Mark electrical lines before removal.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Ensure that electrical lines are routed properly.
 
16 Pull electric leads out of rear door    
17 Remove door retaining hinge (6) from body    
18 Remove bolts of top door hinge assembly (7) IMPORTANT Secure rear-end door against falling down.  
19 Unscrew bolts from lower door hinge and remove rear door IMPORTANT Secure rear-end door against falling down. Use aid of helper to remove door.  
20 Install in the reverse order    
21 Adjust rear-end door Model 463.220/221/222/224/225/227/228/230/231/232/233/237/240/241/243/244/245/246/247/249/270/271/320/321/322/323/324/325/327/328/330/331/332/333/336/340/341/346 Station wagon

23 Read out fault memory and erase IMPORTANT After work is complete, faults stored in the fault memory must be processed and erased. The stored faults may be caused by removed cables during installation or test operations as well as by simulation.
