Remove/install steering wheel - AR46.10-P-0100P

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on battery All models AH54.10-P-0001-01A
1 Fully extend steering wheel (32) IMPORTANT Only with electrically adjustable steering column tube.  
2 Move steering wheel (32) to horizontal position IMPORTANT The front wheels must be in the straight-ahead position.  
3 Remove electronic ignition key IMPORTANT The electronic steering lock (ELV) engages.  
4 Remove airbag unit from steering wheel (32)   AR91.60-P-0660Q
5 Remove countersunk screw (32c), steadying steering wheel (32). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace countersunk bolt (32c).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1001-02A 
6 Pull off steering wheel (32), passing the electrical cables to the airbag unit through the opening in the steering wheel (32) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Align the recesses of the serrations (arrows) on the steering wheel (32) with the markings on the steering shaft.  
INSPECT Checking     
7 Check fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) for damage Model 209 as of 1.6.04
IMPORTANT If damaged, replace fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45):↓
 
    Remove/install clock spring contact

8 Install in the reverse order    
9 Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS, read out fault memory and erase if necessary   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
10 Conduct a road test IMPORTANT If the steering wheel (32) is at a slant, adjust it by max. one tooth. If the steering wheel (32) is displaced by more than one tooth, satisfactory resetting of the turn signals is no longer guaranteed.
IMPORTANT The airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) must not light up when the steering is turned to full lock in either direction.
