Check quiescent current consumption - AR54.10-P-1030P

INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

1.1 Remove dust filter housing for heating/ventilation IMPORTANT Model 203, 209.  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE AP83.00-P-8381P
1.3 Remove battery box cover (B)    
2.1 Preparing test with quiescent current retention unit   AR54.10-P-1030-01P 
COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Multimeter *WH58.30-Z-1001-09A 
COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Quiescent current retention unit CMP 12.2 *WH58.30-Z-1012-09A 
2.2 Prepare test without quiescent current retention unit   AR54.10-P-1030-02P 
COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Multimeter *WH58.30-Z-1001-09A 
3 Switch off all consumers IMPORTANT Remove transmitter/ignition key.
Switch off stationary heater.
Switch off car phone.
Switch off radio.
Switch off interior protection.
Switch off vanity mirror
Switch off reading light.
Turn rotary light switch to "0" position.
Close doors, the interior illumination must go out automatically after a few seconds.
With COMAND: Remove CD-ROM from COMAND, switch off COMAND.
 
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by handling hot or glowing objects. Wear safety gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
4 Check whether auxiliary water pump is operating IMPORTANT Carefully touch coolant hose or additional water pump
Auxiliary water pump operating: ↓
Do not commence quiescent current test until pump has switched off.
5 Testing quiescent current   AR54.10-P-1030-03P 
SPECIAL TOOL Baseline current draw test adapter 1 Figure

COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Multimeter
If specification for total quiescent current is not achieved: ↓

Determine circuit with excessive quiescent current consumption.
Specification not achieved: ↓
AR54.10-P-1030-04P 
Determine fuse-protected components with increased quiescent current consumption.
Specification not achieved: ↓
AR54.10-P-1030-05P 
Determine non-fuse protected components with increased quiescent current consumption. AR54.10-P-1030-06P 
To check, re-test quiescent current. AR54.10-P-1030-03P 
6 Render electrical system operational IMPORTANT Only if no quiescent current retention device has been used. See:↓  
Perform basic programming. AR00.19-P-0200P
