Indicator lamp test and engine running detection, function - GF54.30-P-2014QO

Indicator lamp test 

An indicator lamp test is performed via the instrument cluster (A1) with "Circuit 15 ON". In the process all the indicator lamps and warning lamps are actuated (if available depending on equipment variants and national versions), with the exception of :

The indicator lamp test only takes place, as long as circuit 61 is at low level (circuit 61 < 9 V), the alternator (G2) is not yet operating and the engine speed is less that 200 RPM.

If there is no fault, the indicator lamps and warning lamps go out when the engine is running.

Engine running detection circuit 61e 

The instrument cluster (A1) links the Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN) messages "Circuit 61" and "Engine speed" with the CAN message "Circuit 61e" (engine running detection). This CAN message can have either a "HIGH" or "LOW" status. The CAN message is "LOW" when circuit 61 is "LOW" and the engine speed is less than 200 RPM. The CAN message is "HIGH" if the engine speed is more than 200 RPM".

The CAN message "circuit 61e" is placed by the instrument cluster (A1) on the Controller Area Network bus class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) and as a result is available to the control units connected with CAN-C which need this CAN message.

Networking 

The following CAN message is required:

The signal "Circuit. 61" from alternator (G2) (alternator check) is read by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) then places the CAN message "Circuit 61 HIGH" (alternator (G2) operating) or "Circuit 61 LOW" (alternator (G2) not operating) on the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).

Engine speed 

The pulses from the crankshaft position encoder (L5) are read by the ME control unit (N3/9) or the CDI control unit (N3/10). The ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) or CDI control unit (N3/9) places the CAN message "Engine speed" in revolutions per minute on CAN-C.

The instrument cluster (A1) receives these CAN messages and evaluates them as described above.

IMPORTANT The same CAN messages are used for the charge circuit warning "BATTERY/ALTERNATOR SERVICE REQUIRED." This warning message appears on the multifunction display (A1p13) when circuit 61 is on "LOW" and the engine speed is greater than 200 RPM.
