Remove/Install
CAUTION:
Risk of death cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
WARNING:
Self-locking nuts and bolts, replace all self-locking nuts and bolts loosened during removal with NEW self-locking nuts and bolts.

Disconnect battery. See
DISCONNECT/CONNECT BATTERY'S GROUND CABLE
.NOTE: Upon installation: Code radio, set clock, normalize power windows and set timer in vehicles with stationary heater.

Remove engine support with engine mount (12). See Fig 1.NOTE: Support transmission before hand.

Remove exhaust bracket (13).NOTE: Upon installation: Replace self-locking nuts (15).
- 4 - Remove shield.

Detach exhaust system from supports.
Detach using V-belt.

Detach propeller shaft (17).
Detach propeller shaft complete and pull to the back.

NOTE: Upon installation: Replace self-locking nuts. - 7 - Disconnect reverse lamp switch connector (X49/1).
- 8 - Detach ground line (20).
- 9 - Separate hydraulic line (11) for clutch operating system.

Remove cap (21) on bracket (8)NOTE: Upon installation: First insert upper guide of cap (21), then clip in at the bottom. The retaining lugs must be heard to engage.

Unhook selector cable (7) at the bracket (8), rotate nut (9) counter clockwise and remove selector cable (7).NOTE: Upon installation: Grease ball joint lightly and pay attention to correct seat of spacer ring (10).
Long Life Grease. See Fig 4.
- 12 - Tie selector cable (7) out of the way.
- 13 - Unlock and pull out safety bolt (3).

Unhook shift rod (5) from transmission (1).NOTE: Upon installation: Grease ball joint lightly.

Unscrew bolts (2) on crankcase and, using lifting device, remove transmission (1) downwards at an angle.NOTE: Upon installation: Check seat of dowel pins and sleeves.
In-line engine: Dowel pin on transmission (2 pieces).
V- engine: Dowel pin on crankcase (2 pieces).
Use Transmission Plate. See Fig 3.

Check thrust bearing and deep-groove ball bearing of crankshaft.NOTE: Check for noise, rough running, leaks and wear and replace if necessary.

Inspect transmission oil level.
Correct oil level =10 mm below bottom edge of filler hole. See Fig 2.
NOTE: Filling capacity for transmission oil revised. See ON VEHICLE SERVICING article.NOTE: Carry out measurement e.g. with hexagon socket wrench.Torque Specification: Oil drain plug to transmission. See COMPLETE MANUAL TRANSMISSION .

Check gearshift for ease of movement. If gearshift is sluggish: Adjust selector cable:

CAUTION:
Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes. Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.
