Functions in the case of ignition ON: 

• The ME gasoline injection and ignition system is supplied with voltage by the corresponding SAM control unit.
• To achieve full running protection the fuel pump (M3) or the fuel pump assembly (M3) is actuated for about 2 seconds (only for the first ever ignition ON).
• The engine diagnosis indicator lamp (A1e58) (for "CHECK ENGINE" MIL (A1e26)) in instrument cluster (A1) lights up for about 1 second (lamp check).
• Data exchange takes place with the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) over the CAN databus (terminal 50 signal).
• The fault memory can be read out and erased via the data link connector (X11/4).
• Correction programming and diagnosis can be performed using the STAR DIAGNOSIS.
