Breakdown assistance function, general

With the breakdown assistance function it is possible for the user to contact the service center in the event of a vehicle defect, for example. The service center can then perform remote diagnosis of the actual situation and initiate effective help measures, in consideration of further vehicle-specific data.

Breakdown assistance function sequence

The status of the breakdown assistance button is read in by the emergency call system control unit via a discrete line. The emergency call system control unit automatically transmits an SMS (SMS = Short Message Service) with the following data to the service center via the communication module that is integrated in the emergency call system control unit:

A voice connection to the service center is also set up at the same time via the communication module that is integrated in the emergency call system control unit.

The communication module that is integrated in the emergency call system control unit is connected using a discrete line via the radio and cell phone antenna splitter (A28/1) to the telephone and fax antenna (A2/22). The latter transmits and receives the cellular phone signals.

IMPORTANT The light emitting diode (LED) that is integrated in the breakdown assistance button flashes for as long as the breakdown assistance is active.

IMPORTANT In the event of breakdown assistance, other vehicle-related services (e.g. MB-Info call) are interrupted.

IMPORTANT In the event of a malfunction in the telephone and fax antenna (faulty because of a rollover, for example), the communication module that is integrated in the emergency call system control unit automatically transmits and receives the cellular phone signals via the emergency call antenna (A2/52).
