Instrument cluster (IC) function - GF54.30-P-0002PP
MODELS 203.0 /2 /7 up to 23.4.04
Shows model 203.0/2
The instrument cluster (A1) has the following functions:
- to provide information on important operating conditions of the vehicle
- to provide a warning in the event of critical operating conditions
- As a display unit for various systems
- As computer and display for the "Active Service System" (ASSYST)
- As a trip computer for the driver
For this purpose the instrument cluster (A1) has a multifunction display (A1p13), various display instruments, warning lamps and indicator lamps and an acoustic sensor.
In addition various signals are converted in the instrument cluster (A1) and passed on to the Controller Area Network bus Class C (engine compartment) (CAN-C) and/or the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B).
All the necessary information from various control units reaches the instrument cluster (A1) via the CAN-C or CAN-B.
For this reason only a few lines are required to connect with the remaining vehicle components. The instrument cluster (A1) therefore only has one connector.
The instrument cluster (A1) has a microprocessor to process the incoming data. The program and necessary data are stored in an electronic memory chip.
Operation takes place via the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111), left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and via the trip odometer reset button (A1s3) on the instrument cluster (A1).
After the instrument cluster (A1) is exchanged the code ID must be entered using STAR DIAGNOSIS. The codings and kilometer reading are then transmitted automatically from a vehicle control unit to the new instrument cluster via the Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)(A1).
