ME limiting maximum vehicle speed, function - GF07.61-P-3007GS

The ME control module detects the engine speed from the crankshaft position sensor signal. As a protection for the engine and the drive train, engine speed is limited by switching off the fuel injectors if the following conditions exist:
- Torque converter protection in selector lever position P/N
In order to protect the torque converter in selector lever positions P and N (no power transmission) from excessive static internal pressure, engine speed is limited (e.g. to approx. 3800 rpm).
- Limiting maximum engine speed when driving
In order to protect the engine from the consequences of impermissibly high revs, engine speed is limited to 6200 rpm. The driving mode is detected from the vehicle speed signal.
- Safety fuel shutoff
If the actuator is faulty, the fuel injectors are shut off at engine speeds of approx. > 1400 rpm, and operated again at approx. <1200 rpm.
