REMOVING Remove

1 Connect no load current retention unit   *WH58.30-Z-1012-09A 
2 Remove battery    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR54.10-P-0005I
3 Remove coverings in trunk IMPORTANT The rear wall paneling does not need to be removed.

4.1 Remove CD changer    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   With CODE (819) CD changer in luggage compartment (6CDs). AR82.64-P-7507I
5 Remove plastic cover in left rain trough on rear fender    
6 Remove rear seat cushion    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR91.12-P-1020N
7 Remove rear seat backrest    
8 Remove right backrest side panel    
9 Fold back insulation mat behind right rear seat    
10 Remove control unit holder below right rear seat    
11 Remove fuse box in rear compartment    
12 Remove rear bumper

13 Remove exhaust system as of flange connection Refer to Removing exhaust system complete: ↓  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Engine 113.960 in model 215.375. AR49.10-P-7000AA
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Engine 137.970 in model 215.378. AR49.10-P-7000L

14 Remove screens at left and right above the rear muffler    
INSTALLING Install     
15 Retrofit mechanical detachable parts IMPORTANT Do not remove the transport locking element on the swiveling ball neck until the release lever has been installed. AN31.11-P-8080-05N 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, trailer coupling to rear center assembly *BA31.11-P-1001-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, trailer coupling to side member reinforcement *BA31.11-P-1002-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar nut, side member reinforcement to frame side member *BA31.11-P-1003-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, bumper to bumper reinforcement *BA31.11-P-1004-01A 
16 Retrofit release lever   AN31.11-P-8080-06N 
17 Retrofit trailer coupling control unit   AN31.19-P-8080-05N 
18 Connect wiring harness   AN31.19-P-8080-03N 
19 Install rear bumper    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT Rear bumper with trailer coupling. AR88.20-P-2200N
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, bumper reinforcement to trailer coupling *BA31.11-P-1005-01A 
20 Install remaining parts onto vehicle    
INSPECT Check     
21 Perform version coding subsequently IMPORTANT For trailer hitch code 550.  
22 Conduct operational check of swivel-mounted trailer coupling IMPORTANT When the trailer hitch is not engaged the LED in the release lever of the trailer hitch release (A63) starts to flash (see arrow). The LED stops flashing when the engagement at an end position occurs or after approx. 8 min.  
23 Performing function test of light signals at trailer coupling socket
