- Pass trailer coupling socket through hole under right tail lamp from inside and seal with grommet (i).
Pull rubber grommet off trailer coupling socket.
- Connect ground lead to ground point in right side of trunk (W7/1).
- Route trailer coupling wiring harness (1) along existing cable to cable duct in rear wall (see arrow) and fasten.
- Route branch-off line with 4-pin connector (1a) along trunk sill to left tail lamp and fasten to existing cables.
- Route trailer coupling wiring harness (1) along existing cables to rear fuse box (F4) and fasten.
- Unplug 6-pin connector (1A) from rear SAM control module (N10/8) (see diagram bottom left).
- Open 6-pin connector (1A), insert green cable (gn) into chamber 6 and white cable (ws) into chamber 5, and connect to rear SAM control module (N10/8).
The green and white cables (gn, ws) are from the trailer coupling wiring harness (1).
- Connect 2-pin white connector (K2) with black/red cable (sw/rt) to free socket in rear fuse and relay box (K40/5).
The socket is outlined with white paint.
- Connect ground lead to ground shielding for CAN/SAM in rear (W50/2) (see detail).
- Position the single blue fuse housing for the fuse (54) and the double blue fuse housing for the fuses (55, 56) as shown in the diagram and install fuses as follows:
- Fuse 54 with 10A rating (pink/red cable)
- Fuse 56 with 30A rating (red/yellow cable)
Fuse 55 with 30A rating (red/violet cable) should only be installed when towing a trailer.
- Route branch-off line with 4-pin connector (1a) behind left quarter panel to trailer coupling release (A63) and install in chamber 2 (see arrow in detail).
- Route trailer coupling wiring harness with trailer coupling socket (X58) along the rear center panel and fasten to existing holes at two points (see arrows) with omega clips.
Omega clips are included in the trailer coupling wiring harness.
- The first omega clip is fastened to the right trailer coupling bracket (see detail).
- Pass trailer coupling socket (X58) through eye in ball head.
- Place trailer coupling socket (X58) in socket housing (10) and seal with grommet (10b).
Ensure that the grommet (10b) is inserted into the socket housing (10) without creases.
- Fasten socket housing (10) to ball head with two bolts.
- Fasten trailer coupling wiring harness (1) to rear of ball head using existing cable strap.
Ensure that the trailer coupling wiring harness can move freely when the ball head is swiveled.
