Disconnect ground cable of battery |
Ensure that ground cable will not come into renewed contact with the battery terminal as you are working. |

Remove steering wheel (32) |

Remove fanfare horns and airbag clock spring contact (A45) |

Disconnect connector of contact switch (a) for height adjustment lever |

Remove shift lock (36h) by compressing retaining clips (arrows) and moving shift lock back out of retaining lugs |

Separate connector of transponder (c) and remove transponder |

Disconnect connector of steering lock (b); to do this, unlock plug (arrows) |
Installation:
The plug must lock in position. |

Unclip line from combination switch (S4) at the bottom of the jacket tube |

Remove cover below instrument panel |

Detach lower nuts of jacket tube (71b) from jacket tube(71) |

Detach upper bolts of jacket tube (91 a) from jacket tube(71) |
Installation: Attach all bolts and nuts
(it must still be possible to move the jacket tube), then tighten the upper bolts first |

Remove jacket tube (71) upwards |
Installation:
Observe markings of jacket tube (71) relative to lower steering shaft (80a) |

Unscrew self-locking nut (25d) with bolt from the steering coupling (25) on lower steering shaft (80a) |

Pull lower steering shaft (80a) up and out of steering coupling (25) |
Do not use force as the collapsible tubing is sensitive to side forces. Enlarge clamping groove a little with a screwdriver if necessary. |

Remove steering shaft (80a) upwards |
|

| 18 |
Check lower steering shaft (80a) and replace if necessary |
If the lower steering shaft has been replaced: ↓ |
|
| Remove steering coupling. |

| Adjust installation position of lower steering shaft to jacket tube. |

Check rubber boot (80b) and, if necessary, replace |
