The vehicle is in the position shown in the picture when the Nivomat has set the optimum vehicle level. The rising pressure in the high pressure reservoir (26), which simultaneously effects the carrier element (32), has increased the extension force of the piston rod (31) and raised the height of the vehicle body.
Continued pumping does not increase the pressure, since the height regulator (33) enables a bypass (28) between the working chamber and the pump chamber. This bypass (28) prevents additional oil from being pumped out of the low pressure reservoir (27).
The vehicle level can only be adjusted when the vehicle is in motion since the Nivomat is a purely mechanical system and does not require any electrical components.
