The Nivomat damping element, driver-side (10) and the Nivomat damping element, passenger side (11) feature 2 different types of damping.

These are:

• Speed-dependent basic damping
• Load-sensitive additional damping

The damping function is carried out by openings that are covered by flexible valve plates.

Basic damping 

As the damping piston (15) moves in the damping fluid, the fluid flows through the piston valves and the resulting flow energy is converted into heat.

Load-sensitive additional damping 

Load-sensitive additional damping is generated by the pump of the Nivomat damping element, driver-side (10) and the Nivomat damping element, passenger side (11). The additional damping acts in the rebound direction and increases as the load increases.
