Constant map matching is the calculation of the vehicles current position.

This is active when the ignition is switched on, and is carried out by the navigation processor , which is integrated into the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) . During the switch-on phase (software is loaded), only basic map matching is available. After switching the ignition off, all important positioning parameters are stored for the duration of the run-on time (approx. 30 min).

Constant map matching employs three procedures, which mutually supplement one another and thereby guarantee very accurate and reliable map matching:

Basic map matching (composite positioning)
Map-supported map matching (map matching)
GPS map matching

Manual input of the vehicle's location

The location can be manually input on the operating and display unit.

This may be useful in the following cases:

Following the transportation of the vehicle (e. g. ferry or train) or
if no GPS reception is available at the start of the journey.
