General

The instrument cluster (A1) serves:

To do this the instrument cluster (A1) has a multifunction display (A1p13), various display instruments, warning and indicator lamps and an audible transmitter.

In addition various signals (e.g. "vehicle speed, terminal 58d") are generated in the instrument cluster (A1) and passed on to the CAN/ engine compartment and to the CAN connection between the instrument cluster (A1) and radio (A2) or between the instrument cluster and the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3). In the function description this CAN bus is abbreviated to CAN (A1 -A2, A40/3)  . The information required is passed on to the instrument cluster (A1) from various control modules via the CAN/ engine compartment  or discrete lines.

The instrument cluster has a microprocessor to process the incoming data. The necessary program and data required are stored in an electronic memory module.

Operation  is via the system select/voice control pushbutton (S110s3), the scroll forward/back pushbuttons (S110s1) of the multifunction steering wheel  and via the three buttons on the instrument cluster (A1).

IMPORTANT Diagnosis is via the Star diagnosis tool.
