Removing and installing heater housing - AR83.25-P-1000G

REMOVINGINSTALLING Removal, installation     
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes from scalding with hot coolant which splashes out. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.

1 Relieve pressure in cooling system IMPORTANT For this purpose turn cap on supply reservoir to catch "1" and reclose.  
2 Drain coolant IMPORTANTInstallation:  Pour in coolant. AR20.00-P-1142HG
NOTES Notes on coolant All engines AH20.00-N-2080-01A
3 Remove hose clamp for hot water hose (1)    
4 Pull off hot water hose (1) IMPORTANT Plug openings (parts kit)  
5 Remove hose clamps from hot water hoses (2+3) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Do not mix up hot water hoses.  
6 Pull off hot water hoses (2+3) IMPORTANT If necessary remove heat shield and press to side.
IMPORTANT Plug openings (parts kit).
 
N Remove instrument panel IMPORTANTInstallation:  Before installing the instrument panel, check for proper functioning. AR68.10-P-1000G
8 Remove insulating mats    
9 Unscrew nuts (4) for instrument cluster holder (5)    
10 Remove instrument cluster holder (5)    
11 Remove infrared DAS control module (N54/1) Except with US version (code 491)
except with Japanese version (code 498)

12 Separate all cable straps on transverse pipe    
13 Remove screw connection (6) for electric leads on body tunnel IMPORTANT This is necessary to remove the cross pipe from the vehicle.  
14 Unscrew mounting screws (7) and mounting nuts (8) on jacket tube IMPORTANT Pivot jacket tube out of working area.  
15 Pull off electrical connector on passenger airbag squib (R12/8)    
16 Remove heater ducts on left and right    
17 Unscrew mounting nuts (9) (3x) on heater housing    
18 Unscrew mounting screw (10) from body tunnel    
19 Unscrew mounting screws (11) (2x) via jacket tube    
20 Unscrew mounting screws (12) on A-pillars (3 each)    
21 Disconnect connectors from vacuum reservoir (13)    
22 Remove transverse pipe NOTES To avoid damage helper is required.  
23 Pull off electrical connector on heater core temperature sensor (B10/1)    
24 Disconnect electrical connector from fresh air/ recirculating air flap switchover valve (Y13)    
25 Remove all cable straps on heater housing    
26 Remove heater housing    
27 Install in opposite order
