Remove/install jacket tube - AR46.10-P-0400BG

	Remove/Install
Installation	Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.
1	Position steering wheel horizontal (front wheels in straight-ahead position)
2	Remove steering wheel (32)		AR46.10-P-0100B
3	Remove spiral contact coil (A45)	Vehicles up to 31.05.99	AR46.10-P-0200A
		Vehicles as of 01.06.99	AR46.10-P-0200B
4	Remove cover below instrument panel		AR68.10-P-1500F
5	Remove combination switch (S4) and CC switch (S40)		AR54.25-P-2800EA
6	Remove jacket tube trim (99)
7	Mark steering column with respect to jacket tube (71) (arrow)
8	Remove instrument cluster		AR54.30-P-6015EA
9	Detach engine compartment paneling (rear) at the bottom		AR61.20-P-1105AB
10	Unscrew bolt (25a) of steering coupling (25) at lower steering shaft (80a)	Installation: Replace locking plate (25f) with self-locking nut.

11	Press lower steering shaft (80a) out of steering coupling	Do not use force (blows from a hammer, a severe leverage) on steering coupling. If necessary, expand clamping slot slightly with a screwdriver. Only separate the connector after removing a the clock spring contact.
12	Unclip cable retainer (71f) from jacket tube
13	Detach reinforcement brace (98)	Installation: ↓ Position jacket tube and attach reinforcement brace.

14	Separate longitudinal adjustment motor connector (M20x1) and height adjustment motor connector (M20x2)
15	Turn electronic ignition key into position "1" and separate connector (37p)	The electronic steering lock (N26/5) remains unlocked.
16	Unscrew lower bolt (91b) for electric steering column adjustment (80) from body		*BA46.10-P-1001-03D
17	Unscrew upper bolts (91a) of electric steering column adjustment (80) on body	Installation: Fit bolts (91b, 91a) (it must still be possible to move the jacket tube). Tighten upper screws (91a) first

18	Remove jacket tube with lower steering shaft	Do not use force, as the lower steering shaft (80a) is sensitive to forces applied from the side. Installation: Pay attention to the marking applied (arrow) for straight-ahead of the jacket tube and steering column.
19	Unscrew nut (37n) from fastening bolt (37m)		*BA46.10-P-1020-03D
20	Remove fastening bolt (37m) upwards	The fastening bolt (37m) can only be removed when the electronic steering lock is unlocked.
21	Take electronic steering lock (N26/5) out of the jacket tube
22	Disassemble/assemble electrically adjustable jacket tube	If necessary.	AR46.10-P-0600BF
	Check
23	Check rubber boot (85a) and replace if necessary	Installation: Grease the inside of rubber boot in the area of the two bearings using grease: ↓
		Klueber Polylub GLY 801 grease Ensure that the rubber boot is properly seated.	*BR00.45-Z-1046-06A
24	Install in the reverse order
